SUMMARY:Remembering Operation Husky - Songs of World War II
DESCRIPTION:On 5th August\, the Goldberg Ensemble\, comprising a Choir\, String Quartet\, a Clarinettist and Pianist will present a programme of Wartime Songs hailing from various countries. All under the baton of Mro Michael Laus who will also accompany the singers on the piano. These include Lili Marleen\, La vie en Rose; Glenn Miller’s Moonlight Serenade and Vera Lynn’s immortal We’ll Meet Again\, among  others. \nA simple but effective form of theatrecraft\, such as the use of follow-spots\, authentic footage and sound effects would be used to create an appropriate atmospheric ambiance thus enabling the audience to emotionally respond to the music. \nPerformed by the Goldberg Ensemble\n\nMichael Laus\, director & piano\n\nThis concert\, performed by some of Malta’s top classical instrumentalists and singers\, consists of a number of songs and instrumental pieces which were popular in Europe and the United States during World War 2. The arrangements for choir\, string quintet\, clarinet and piano\, have been prepared especially for this evening by Michael Laus. SUMMARY:Remembering Operation Husky - Concert by The Band of The Armed Forces of Malta
DESCRIPTION:The Band of the Armed Forces of Malta will be performing a concert consisting of music related to the era of Operation Husky\, whilst also celebrating its 80th Anniversary. The concert will open with the well-known “Fanfare for the Common Man” by American composer Aaron Copland\, and other music related to the theme will follow\, taking the audeince on a journey back to the 1940s. The concert will also include music from renowned artists such as Glenn Miller\, Jacob de Haan\, and Ilio Volante and world premieres by Maltese composers such as Bombardier Peter Cini\, who is also a member of the AFM Band\, and Mro. Anthony Mercieca. The musical part of this concert will be accompanied by more local talent\, including Bombardier Georg Zammit\, a children’s choir from Centrestage\, and dancers from DanceLabMT. \n  \nThe concert will be led by Captain Mro. Jonathan Borg\, Musical Director of the Band of the Armed Forces of Malta.

DESCRIPTION:Under the distinguish patronage of His Excellency George Vella\, the President of Malta\,\nthe Medina Foundation for Music will be presenting the Musical-Drama\, ‘Għalik’\, with\nscore and libretto by Mro Mark Agius\, portraying the last days of Christ\, from his\ntriumphant entry into Jerusalem\, to his passion and crucifixion and his glorious\nascension into heaven.\nInspired by the Passion play which is held in Oberammergau\, Germany\, this is the first\ntime that such a production will be produced in Malta and will feature a full\, live\nsymphonic orchestra\, singers\, choristers\, actors\, and dancers.\n‘Għalik’ is a revolutionary experience which will present the passion and resurrection of\nChrist in an innovative and unique way. Two performance events will be held at the\nMediterranean Conference Centre on the 25th and 26th March 2023\, respectively.\nThe production\, with a cast of over 200 performers is being held in collaboration with\nId-Dar tal-Providenza\, Special Olympics Malta and also features established local artists\,\nsingers and dancers of the St Paul Metropolitan Orchestra\, the St Monica Vocal\nEnsemble\, the Anacrusis Concert Choir and the Paul Curmi Dance Studio\, under the\nmusical direction of Mro Agius himself\, the artistic direction of Sandy Spiteri Vella\,\nassisted by Louie Noir\, and dance choreography of Eldridge Saliba Curmi\, together with\nthe internationally renowned local costume designer Louie Noir\, make-up artists and\nstage scene producers.\nAn important and intrinsic element within the production is the inclusion of persons\nwith disability in acting roles. As an exercise in inclusion\, the production seeks to raise\nawareness of local talents whilst also showcasing the ability and skills of persons with\ndisability\, giving them the opportunity to participate in a professionally produced\nperformance. Parts of the performance will also be interpreted in sign language by a\ndeaf person.\nThe performances will be suitable for the general public and will be enhanced by the\nunique designed stage scenes\, traditional costumes\, props\, stage make up\, filming\,\nadequate sound and lighting.

DESCRIPTION:“Rock Classics of the 60’s and 70’s” is the latest rock orchestral collaboration in a series of outstanding events brought to the MCC by The Gozo Youth Orchestra and 7SPP. The concert is scheduled to take place on Saturday 11th March 2023 at 8 p.m. The line up will feature The Gozo Youth Orchestra under the direction of our Musical Director\, Maestro Joseph Grech. The Orchestra will once again be joined by Gozo’s finest\, CASH & Band\, led by John ‘Cash’ Cassar. Also appearing on the night\, will be a hugely talented line up of guest performers. Dorothy Bezzina\, Sarah Bonnici\, Kurt Cassar\, Ludwig Galea\, Neville Refalo\, are among the best known singers on the Maltese music scene. The backing vocals will be provided by The 7SPP Choir\, under the direction of Dorothy Bezzina. \nThe show will feature classic numbers from legendary bands such as\, The Rolling Stones\, Fleetwood Mac\, AC/DC\, Creedence Clearwater Revival\, Led Zeppelin\, Blondie\, Procol Harlem\, Deep Purple\, Nazareth\, The Animals\, Pink Floyd\, Boston and artists such as Elvis Presley\, Eric Clapton\, Rod Stewart\, Elton John and David Bowie.
