SUMMARY:Rock & POP Classics of the 80s and 90s
DESCRIPTION:Rock & POP Classics of the 80s and 90s will be coming to the historic venue of the Mediterranean Conference Centre on the 12th October 2024. It will be for one night only. The Gozo Youth Orchestra and 7SPP\, with the support of Festivals Malta\, will present their latest collaboration. On this occasion we will feature\, not only some of the best Rock numbers but also some of the most popular numbers from that period.\n\nThe line-up will be familiar to our many loyal supporters by now. It features The Gozo Youth Orchestra under the direction of our Musical Director\, Maestro Joseph Grech plus the ROCKIN’ KNIGHTS BAND\, led by Marc Galea. Once again a very talented line up of local guest vocalists will be included. Dorothy Bezzina\, Jolene Samhan together with guest singers Dorothy Borg Bonnici\, Natassja Chapman\, Rachel Grech\, Jessica Calleja Magro and X Factor finalist Amelia Kalabic\, will be joined by Klinsmann\, Neville Refalo\, and Chris Grech. They are recognised as being among some of the best talent available on these islands and all have featured in some of the biggest events held in Malta and Gozo. The backing vocals will be provided by The 7SPP Choir\, under the direction of Dorothy Bezzina.\n\nThe show will feature over\, 24 classic numbers selected from the works of some of Rock & Pop’s greatest legends. Prepare to hear amazing renditions from the works of Guns n Roses\, Depeche Mode\, QUEEN\, R.E.M\, Aerosmith\, The Pet Shop Boys\, Journey\, Europe\, Van Halen\, The Scorpions\, Bon Jovi\, The Cranberries\, Foreigner\, Tina Turner\, Madonna\, Berlin\, U2\, Bruce Springsteen\, The Verve\, Phil Collins\, and many others. A full setlist will be displayed soon on the social media pages of 7SPP and The Gozo Wind Band and Youth Orchestra\n\nDeciding on which numbers to cover is never an easy task. The concert produced by iCAN will be held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre. This event will take place on Saturday 2nd December at 8pm and on Sunday 3rd December at 6pm. \nIra Losco became a household name the night she won her chance to represent Malta\, at the global Eurovision Song Contest in Estonia back in 2002. The Festival at the time was held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre. DESCRIPTION:On 5th August\, the Goldberg Ensemble\, comprising a Choir\, String Quartet\, a Clarinettist and Pianist will present a programme of Wartime Songs hailing from various countries. All under the baton of Mro Michael Laus who will also accompany the singers on the piano. These include Lili Marleen\, La vie en Rose; Glenn Miller’s Moonlight Serenade and Vera Lynn’s immortal We’ll Meet Again\, among  others. \nA simple but effective form of theatrecraft\, such as the use of follow-spots\, authentic footage and sound effects would be used to create an appropriate atmospheric ambiance thus enabling the audience to emotionally respond to the music. \nPerformed by the Goldberg Ensemble\n\nMichael Laus\, director & piano\n\nThis concert\, performed by some of Malta’s top classical instrumentalists and singers\, consists of a number of songs and instrumental pieces which were popular in Europe and the United States during World War 2. The arrangements for choir\, string quintet\, clarinet and piano\, have been prepared especially for this evening by Michael Laus. DESCRIPTION:The Band of the Armed Forces of Malta will be performing a concert consisting of music related to the era of Operation Husky\, whilst also celebrating its 80th Anniversary. The concert will open with the well-known “Fanfare for the Common Man” by American composer Aaron Copland\, and other music related to the theme will follow\, taking the audeince on a journey back to the 1940s. The concert will also include music from renowned artists such as Glenn Miller\, Jacob de Haan\, and Ilio Volante and world premieres by Maltese composers such as Bombardier Peter Cini\, who is also a member of the AFM Band\, and Mro. Anthony Mercieca. The musical part of this concert will be accompanied by more local talent\, including Bombardier Georg Zammit\, a children’s choir from Centrestage\, and dancers from DanceLabMT. \n  \nThe concert will be led by Captain Mro.
